At the close of the 41st Annual Protecting Our Children Conference, we wanted to pause and reflect on the information shared, activities, and traditional dances. It was wonderful to see everyone in person again, and NICWA welcomed over 1,800 attendees! That is the most attendees to a conference we’ve seen since we started attending it. We were so excited to reconnect with people face-to-face.
NICWA’s plenary speakers touched on meaningful topics in Indian Child Welfare including healing as a community to eliminate generational trauma, using a wraparound approach to support Native families, and demonstrating the importance of cultural identity for Native children entering foster care. The breakout workshops provided a wide array of training for professionals in ICW, too.
