(Laramie, Wyo.) The West is no stranger to wildfires, and residents know the devastation it can cause communities.
500 people living on the Northern Cheyenne reservation located in Lame Deer, Mont. were recently ordered to evacuate due to threats from the Lame Deer and Richard Springs fires. That evacuation order was lifted on August 15, but the Northern Cheyenne still face devastating losses on their lands, with livestock, to businesses, and among community members.
Handel asked employees to donate tangible goods or to the Tribe’s GoFundMe page and said it would match the total amount donated. The employees and Handel as a company were able to donate a total of $1,350 in goods and financial donations.
The Tribe is still accepting financial donations and donations of tangible goods. It has requested the following: water, food, medical supplies, fire supplies, caretaking needs or items for our elders and handicap members, child and infant supplies/food, and fuel. Please also consider donating supplies for young children such as crayons, coloring books, and reading material. They are in need of donations for livestock as well including hay, grains, water, salt bricks, fencing material, and panels.
Please consider donating today if you are able, and if you donate online, ensure that it is the official Northern Cheyenne Tribe’s fundraising page. You may contact us or the Northern Cheyenne Tribe with any questions you have.
